San Diego Padres - 2005 NL West Champions

The Perrier Jouet Grand Brut was for taste. The Domaine Ste. Michelle was for tomfoolery. Inevitably, in all of the chaos and confusion, indiscriminate ballplayers wind up confusing some of the good stuff for shampoo.

"That's OK," said Brian Giles, the blue-collar outfielder. "Just as long as they don't spill any of the beer."
- Tim Sullivan, San Diego Union-Tribune.

Congrats to the San Diego Padres - 2005 NL West Champions! It's been a long time (7 years!). See you in St. Louis on Tuesday. Go Pads!

NL West = over?

I was checking my sms text messages during my choir rehearsal constantly last night from 7:30 - 8:45. Not only was I shocked that after I watched the Giants jump ahead 3-0 in the first inning on a Barry Bonds homer, the Padres actually came back to score some runs, but we seem to have kept going back and forth in score for a while and the first few innings were taking forever! When I finally got out of rehearsal at 9:30, I texted for a score update and I got it when I got to my car: 9-6, Padres, it said. I couldn't believe it. I yelled out, "Yeeeah Biotch!" as I was climbing into my car.

Thanks in part to Ramon Hernandez's 7 RBI and Clay Hensley's stellar relief work, a win tonight or tomorrow night mean the Padres clinch the division is clinched, and we can relax till next week. The game's on ESPN2 tonight. Unfortunately, I again have rehearsal until 9:30, but you can bet that my DVR will be going and I'll be there for the action.

Magic Number = 2

Just do it.

New Razr and 1st place Pads...

So, I guess I've had the razr for about three weeks now. It's pretty tight. After having my big-ass Treo for a while, having a phone that's so thin is such a nice change. I'm also really loving the bluetooth and its compatibility with OS X and isync. It makes synching everything really easy and convenient, not to mention OBEX in OSX which is great for wallpapers and mp3 ringers. Anna Netrebko is my default ringer, nice eh?

So this lousy division was supposed to be wrapped up 2 weeks ago, it seems, but somehow these losers can't manage to stay above .500. This is amazing: in the past two games, we've had FIVE hits. Can you believe that? Last night, Jake Peavy threw 118 pitches and allowed 1 run through 8 innings and with two outs, Trevor Hoffmann gives up a BOMB triple to center field to allow the tying run. He eventually allowed the go ahead run and that was the end of that...It was such an awful loss. On the plus side, Ryan Klesko hit a no doubter of a home run in the first inning. If THAT can happen, maybe this shitty team can manage to actually not lose this division.

Magic number = 4 (still).

V-Day

Well, today has been two years in the making, and it's finally here. Yes, today: September 1, 2005, my Verizon contract expires. My T-mobile razr is on its way to my office as we speak and I should have it by 12:00PM. I figure that T-mobile only sucks you in to a one year contract, so what do I have to lose? They are the only carrier that does one year contracts as standard, btw. In addition, there is a grace period of 14 days where I can return the phone if I don't like it. If this is the case, I am eyeing the blackberry 7100t...
